Neo Angband: Cutting Room Floor v1.3.0
Added
- VisibleContent “Of Fury” can appear on weapons again. Upstream commented out the ego’s three weapon types in 2011; the new
furyswitch puts them back, and the ego keeps 4.2.6’s own numbers. - VisibleContent Six magic devices cut between 3.0.9 and 4.1.3. Rods of Door/Stair Location and Trap Location, the wand of Door Destruction, and staffs that locate traps, doors and stairs, or objects.
- VisibleContent Stat-draining potions, Apple Juice and Water. Five potions each drain one stat until your next level; the other two just feed you a little.
- VisibleContent The Sabre, the Small Sword, two chain mails and three diggers. Their armour and digging are converted to 4.2’s scales, so a Double Chain Mail sits beside 4.2’s Augmented Chain Mail rather than far below it.
- VisibleContent Death, Ruination and Detonations. Rare, deep, and ruinous to drink unidentified.
- VisibleContent 54 monsters that 4.2.0 replaced, back beside their replacements. The dark elves, Medusa, the Titans, the ninja, the drider and the rest of the 4.1.3 cast return with their own numbers; where an old monster and its replacement are exact equals, each appears half as often.
- VisibleContent The novices, the Swordsman, the Hardened warrior and the angels. Sixteen 3.x monsters, including the angel uniques Uriel, Azriel and Gabriel.
- VisibleContent The Amulet of Amandil, which no Angband release ever enabled. Upstream wrote it in 2011 and commented it out; its own switch turns the record on unchanged apart from its base.
- VisibleContent Bronze dragons and confusion breath. Five bronze dragons, the Great Wyrm of Perplexity and Bronze Dragon Scale Mail come back, with confusion restored as an element for them to breathe.
- VisibleContent Ruby, Sapphire, Mithril, Amber, Coral, Bronze and Golden return as ring and amulet looks. A Ruby ring may once again be Narya, or may not.
- VisibleContent The Potion of Lose Memories. A cheap bad potion from 3.0 through 4.1.3: drinking it costs a quarter of your current experience unless you have hold life, and Restore Life Levels brings the experience back.
- VisibleContentBalance Sticky curses, the cursed rings, the Amulet of DOOM and the Staff of Slowness. With
sticky-curseson, a cursed item can’t be taken off, and nothing else goes into its slot, until the curse is lifted, as in 4.0. Only the curses that match 4.0’s cursed items stick, plus the air swing curse on “(Shattered)” weapons. Light ones yield to Remove Curse, heavy ones need Remove Curse, and a permanent curse never comes off. The Rings of Woe, Weakness, Stupidity and Aggravate Monster, the Amulet of DOOM and the Staff of Slowness return from 3.0.9 in the same section, each with a light curse as in 3.0.9. The Curse Weapon scroll turns a melee weapon “(Shattered)”, with air swing and lower to-hit and to-dam, and Curse Armour turns body armour “(Blasted)”, with a vulnerability and lower armour class. An artifact resists half the time, and neither ego is ever found on a dropped item. - VisibleBalance Classic uncursing. With
classic-uncurseon, Remove Curse clears every worn item whose curses are all light, Remove Curse clears items with heavy curses too, neither can fail, and neither makes an item fragile. Each point an enchant scroll tries to add gets back its one-in-four chance to break a curse, one in eight on an artifact. - VisibleContent Junk items return with their own classes, defaults and tiles. Empty bottles, shards of pottery, broken sticks, skulls and bones, six kinds of skeleton, the Filthy Rag and the broken dagger and sword are back on the dungeon floor, rarely. New characters start with the bottles, shards, sticks, skulls, bones and skeletons ignored; the item ignoring setup lists Junk, Skeletons and Bottles so those kinds can be brought back. The Filthy Rag and broken weapons stay unignored in Angband’s own item classes. All 14 items draw their own historical tile in every bundled pack.
- VisibleUI Restored monsters and ring and amulet looks have tiles. All 76 restored monsters draw their own historical tile in every bundled tile pack, taken from the upstream sheet of the last release that had them. A pack with no tile of its own borrows one from a pack at the same or a lower resolution, never a larger one scaled down. The seven restored ring and amulet looks reuse the tile they used to share.
- VisibleCompatibility Twins can be told apart under Linoleum. When a restored monster or ring and amulet look shares its old tile with a 4.2 monster or an artifact’s look, Linoleum tints it so the two differ. The mod lists Linoleum as an optional dependency; without Linoleum, the twins draw the same tile.
- VisibleContentBalance Angband 4.1’s spellbooks. Two new switches bring back the nine arcane books for the Mage, Rogue and Ranger (with the Ranger casting from INT again) and the nine prayer books for the Priest and Paladin, 254 spell entries in all, and a third restores the old casters’ experience penalties, skills and hit dice. Each is fixed when a character is born, so changing it later only affects new characters. Spells that still exist in 4.2 keep 4.2’s mana and failure chance, the rest are priced from those, and the full table is in the README. Every caster starts with its first town book, and all 18 books have their historical tiles.
Changed
- VisibleCompatibility Cutting Room Floor now needs Neo Angband 1.21.1 or later. It is built and tested against that version.
- Internal The tests compose and bind the mod with the game. Each section now goes through the same composition and binding a player’s game runs, so an unknown flag or a renamed record fails a test.
Removed
- Internal Removed this repo’s own Discord release announcer. Its workflow, script and test are gone. The releases site at releases.rpgm.tools now posts each new release to the Neo Angband announcements forum.
